Fred W. Haise, Jr. was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, November 14, 1933. He graduated from Bilox High School, and at University of Oklahoma he received a bachelor of science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Haise received many special honors and belonged to many organizations. Haise was a research pilot at the NASA Flight Research Center  and NASA Lewis Research Center. From April 1973 to January 1976 he was a Manager of the Space Shuttle Orbiter Project and a commander who piloted the space shuttle approach and landing tests.

John (Jack) L. Lovell, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 25, 1928.  Jack Lovell attended many different schools, such as University of Wisconsin, United States Naval Academy, Test Pilot School, Aviation Safety School, Advanced Management Program at Harvard, honorary doctorates from RockHurst college, Illinois Wesleyan, Western Michigan University, Mary Hardin-Baylor College, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. He received many special honors and belonged to many affiliations. During his Naval career he attended a 4 year tour as a test pilot, had many aviator assignments, served as Program Manager for F4H Phantom Fighter, and served as a Safety Engineer with Fighter Squadron 101.

 

Nasa selected Lovell  as one of the 19 astronauts in April of 1962. He served as a backup pilot for Gemini 4, backup Commander for Gemini 9, and backup Commander to Neil Armstrong for Apollo 11.  Lovell was also a member of the astronaut support crew for the Apollo 7 mission, and launched into  space with Frank Borman on the Gemini 7 mission. Lovell also commanded the Gemini 12 mission, Command Module Piolt, and Navigator for Apollo 8.

John L. Swigert, Jr.  born August 30, 1931 in the city of Denver, Colorado. He died of cancer December 27, 1982.  According to NASA, Swigert attended many different schools "Blessed Sacrament School, Regis and East High School, University of Colorado, University of Harford, American International College, Western State University, and Western Michigan University." Swigert received many special honors and belonged to many organizations.

 

"Swigert was a test pilot for North American Aviation, Inc.  before he joined NASA.  He was a test pilot for Pratt and Whitney from 1957 to 1964, in the Air Force from 1953 to 1956, after graduating from Pilot Training Program and Gunnery School he was a fighter pilot in Japan and Korea. He also served as a jet fighter pilot with the Massachusetts Air National Guard from September 1957 to March 1960, and also a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard from April 1960 to October 1965." Swigert was selected by NASA as one of the 19 astronauts in April 1966. He was Apollo 13 backup and replace prime crewman Thomas K. Mattingly because Mattingly was exposed to German measles.

According to SpaceLog "throughout the Apollo Space Program, the CAPCOM was another astronaut who was the main person to communicate with the crew, as it was considered that someone who had that training would be best able to clearly pass information back and forth. On Apollo 13, there were three CAPCOMs operating in shifts."

 

 

 

 

According to SpaceLog, "the flight director had overall operational responsibility for missions, leading their flight control team. On Apollo 13, there were four FLIGHT teams operating in shifts. Shift changes are occasionally noted in the transcript."
